Plan your journey

By train: Turin → Oulx → Sauze

  1. From Torino Porta Nuova, choose the SFM3 service towards Bardonecchia and get off at Oulx. The Susa branch does not serve Oulx.
  2. At Oulx station, take Arriva line 285 to Sauze d’Oulx. The route passes San Marco and Jouvenceaux; the scheduled bus journey is about 15 minutes.
  3. Vialattea Link lets you book train and bus together through Trenitalia: search for Sauze d’Oulx as your destination. Check the connection and return bus for your travel date.

From Turin Airport

  1. For a straightforward city connection, take an airport bus serving Torino Porta Nuova, then the train towards Bardonecchia to Oulx.
  2. The airport train reaches Torino Porta Susa in about 30 minutes. If you choose this route, include the onward connection to Oulx in the journey planner; Porta Susa and Porta Nuova are different stations.
  3. Finish with the Oulx–Sauze bus or a booked transfer. For late arrivals, arrange the final journey before flying.

Other resorts by public transport

  1. For Cesana, Claviere or Sestriere, travel down to Oulx and check the appropriate branch of Arriva line 285. Allow time between buses; not every departure serves every resort.
  2. For Bardonecchia, go to Oulx and continue by train towards Bardonecchia. Its slopes are a separate ski area; there is no ski connection from Sauze.
  3. For Montgenèvre across the border, arrange an onward transfer from Claviere or a direct taxi. Do not assume the Italian bus continues into France.

The linked line 285 timetable is dated 1 December 2025. Read its weekday, holiday and school-day notes; check for updates before departure. A 2026/27 village shuttle timetable has not yet been verified.

The village & your arrival

The village and its surroundings

Sauze d’Oulx is a mountain village in Piedmont, above the Susa Valley. Its old streets, squares and surrounding forests make it a base for both winter and summer stays. Jouvenceaux lies below the centre; Sportinia is higher on the mountain. The town map provides a useful overview of accommodation, services and nearby businesses.

Your arrival, without the guesswork

Oulx is the railway gateway to Sauze. Your train arrives in the valley; your final bus or taxi brings you up to the village. Use the journey cards above to plan each stage. Tell your accommodation where and when you will arrive, especially if you need help with luggage or a late transfer.

Getting around the village

Find your accommodation and lift departure on the town map before setting off. Check the walking route, not just the distance: Sauze has hills, and Jouvenceaux is below the centre. Ask your accommodation which shuttle stop to use when the seasonal service operates. For parking, follow the signs on arrival and check whether payment or a permit is required.

A day on the mountain

Skiing and snowboarding

Sauze’s slopes include many red runs through larch woods. Sportinia has learning areas, while the higher terrain leads towards other Vialattea sectors. Routes should suit the skier’s ability and allow sufficient time for the return journey. The ski map identifies pistes, lifts and mountain stops; daily operating status is published by the lift operator.

Reaching other resorts on skis

From Sauze, the upper-area links towards Rio Nero and Fraiteve lead into the Sestriere and Sansicario sectors when open. Beyond Sansicario, the wider network continues towards Cesana and Claviere; Montgenèvre is the French sector. These are route-planning landmarks, not turn-by-turn directions. On the official map, trace the open pistes and lifts in both directions, confirm ticket coverage and the last return connection. Bardonecchia requires a road or rail transfer.

Winter 2026/27: the planned dates

Vialattea has announced 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027 for the winter season. These are the planned season dates, not a promise that every piste, lift or resort connection will operate throughout. Check the daily opening report before choosing your route.

Lift tickets and linked areas

Ticket coverage varies with the product and duration. Travel to another sector or across the French border requires confirmation of the areas and days included in the ticket. Vialattea publishes the current tariffs and access conditions. The operator and ticket offices provide product-specific access information.

Equipment and lessons

Rental shops provide equipment fitting and adjustment for different ability levels. Package contents, equipment exchanges and storage arrangements vary by business. Ski schools can advise on lessons according to age, experience and preferred language. Rental businesses and schools are available in the SauzeLocal directory.

Choosing where to stay

Accommodation location influences access to lifts, village services and evening activities. Walking routes and shuttle connections can be as relevant as distance to the centre. Hotels, apartments and B&Bs offer different parking and equipment storage arrangements. The directory and town map support a comparison of locations.

Beyond the slopes

Rest days and days out

Beyond skiing, consider a village walk, a wellness visit or a snowshoe outing with a suitable route. Turin is an option for a day out using transport through Oulx. Other activities around the valley depend on season and availability. Providers can confirm access, equipment and reservation arrangements for each activity.
